الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

The religious scholars have explained the words of Hadeeth Shareef “Nikah is half deen” in various ways.

Mullah Ali Qari (RA) says that Hadeeth means to encourage “Nikah”, mention its importance and to emphasize its sense of purpose, therefore the Hadeeth Sharif promotes that “nikah” is half “deen”.

Imam Ghazali (RA) states the justification of “nikah” in, that corruption in religion is generally caused due to the following:

  1. Private Parts and their associated sexual desires.
  2. Stomach and its desires.

Because through “nikah” one of the two paths of perceived corruption is closed to a large extent, the second (half) remains open, that is why “nikah” is interpreted as half “deen”.

Further to the justifications of the hadeeth, the real danger appears to be about the real intent of the questioner. If Allah forbid, it was based on mockery and joke, it is then a dangerous and harmful attitude for his “Eeman”. It is therefore important for him to seek Allah’s (SWT) forgiveness for this sin and be vigilant of the detrimental effects of such intents and actions in future.
