Cheating in an exam? This includes having a copy of the exam

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

What is the Islamic perspective on cheating in an exam? This includes having a copy of the exam.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

The Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The one who cheats is not of us.” [Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, and others] That is, is not following the Prophet’s guidance and is sinful.

There is absolute consensus of the scholars of Islam that cheating is impermissible (haram) and sinful, and it is something that even the sane intellect alone deems reprehensible.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani,

Amman, Jordan.
