Is it compulsory for the Imaam of Janaazah Salaah to have a beard?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

  1. Is it mustahab, sunnah muakkadah, ghair muakkadah or wajib for the imam who is leading the janazah salaah to have a full fist beard?
  2. If the imam does not possess so, is it permissible, makrooh tanzihi or tahreemi?

A:

  1. It is compulsory.

  2. For the imaam or anybody else to shave or trim the beard before it is one fist is not permissible.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
