Salaah of a New Muslim

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

QUESTION1-WHEN A NON MUSLIM EMBRACES ISLAM HOW WOULD HE PRAY HIS SALAAT BECAUSE HE DOES NOT KNOW ARABIC?

QUESTION2-IF HE PRAYS SALAAT WITHOUT READING ANYTHING WILL SALAAT BE ACCEPTED OR WILL HE HAVE TO DO QADHAA WHEN HE LEARNS ARABIC?

Answer:

A new Muslim should try his utmost to perform his Fardh Salaah with Jamaat and if he performs it individually, he should merely make intention and carry out the actions of Salaah but it is necessary for him to acquire sufficient knowledge and learn sufficient amount of Qur’an in order for him to read Qiraa’at in his Salaah.  He will not have to make Qadhaa of those Salaah that was performed in this manner.  (Ahsanul Fataawaa, Vol. 3, Page 79, Fataawaa ‘Aalamgeeriyyah, Vol. 1, Page 69)
