Questions Regarding the Washroom

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Assalamualaikum. I had a few questions concerning the rules of the toilet (washroom). Is it permissible to use toilet paper to perform Istinjaa? What

should one do if his/her toilet is facing the Qiblah or facing away from the Qiblah? Also: when one makes intention to perform Wudhu inside the washroom,

do they get sin if they say the Du’aa for making Wudhu (because we are not allowed to talk inside the washroom). Jazakallah Khair.

Answer:

  1. It is permissible to use toilet paper to perform Istinjaa. (Jadeed Fiqhi Masaail Vol. 1, Page 84, Fataawaa Mahmoodiyah Vol. 16, Page 168).
  2. If the toilet of someone is facing the Qiblah or slightly away from the Qiblah then the direction of that toilet should be changed and one can’t use that toilet before the changing of its direction but if it is not possible to change the direction of the toilet then one can use the toilet by posing in another position while sitting for Istinjaa and thereafter Istigfaar should be made. (Raddul Muhtaar Vol.1, Page 251, Fataawaa Mahmoodiyah Vol.13, Page 450).
  3. The Du’aa for Wudhu should be made in ones heart while making Wudhu inside the washroom. (Raddul Muhtaar Vol. 1, Page 80, Ahsanul Fataawaa Vol. 2, Page 9)
