Is it allowed in Shari’ah for a family in Canada to receive life insurance benefits after the policy holder has passed away, as the family has no other source of income?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria
Someone passed away in Canada who had applied for life insurance as a requirement of the laws of the land. Due to this, his family will consistently receive an amount from the insurance company. His family has no other means of livelihood. Is it permissible for them, as per Shari’ah, to take his amount, or not?

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

It is permissible for the deceased’s inheritors to take only that amount from the insurance company is equal to the amount of the deceased’s premium (i.e. the total amount he gave to the insurance company). It is not permissible to take more than this amount, which must be avoided.
