ASSALAMU ALAIKUM WA RAHMATHULLAHI WA BARAKATHUHU
Is the water of Kenjhar Lake pure or impure?
الجواب حامدا و مصلیا
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE MOST BENEFICENT AND THE MOST MERCIFUL
The water of Kenjhar Lake is (according to terminologies of Islamic Jurisprudence) “flowing water” (ماءِ جاری) and also “a large body of water” (ماءِ کثیر). And because the color, smell and taste of its water don’t change due to the occurrence of impurities in it, the water is still pure. Hence it is proper, as per Shari’ah, to take a bath, perform
Wudhu (ablution) etc. in this water.
However, if excess amount of impurities get mixed in any part of the lake so much so that the color, taste or smell of that specific part of the lake changes, then the water (of that part of the lake) will be impure, and it will not be proper, as per Shari’ah, to take a bath or perform ablution etc. in that part of the lake. But the water of the other parts of the lake where the effect of the impurities has not reached will be pure and it will be proper to take bath and perform ablution etc. there.
Allah knows best.
