Assalamu Alaikum
What are the rulings if one wishes there to be some time between Nikah and Rukhsathi? For example if Rukhsati can’t be done due to education purposes, can Nikah be done a few months early especially if the couple wants to establish better understanding?

Sharia has not stipulated a time frame for interval between Nikah and Rukhsathi (نکاح اور رخصتی). After the Nikah, Rukhsathi could be arranged whenever is convenient. However, it is not appropriate to delay the Rukhsati after Nikah without a valid reason since it could lead to many bad evils. Due to a proper reason if Rukhsati is delayed as mentioned in the question, there is allowance in doing so
