A person has missed his obligatory Prayers for 3 or more years

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

Asslamu Alaikum
Mufthi Saheb,
A person has missed his obligatory Prayers for 3 or more years and now he wants to repent over it and perform his missed Prayers. Is there a special way of doing it? Likewise is there a way of performing missed Fastings and Sajda e Thilawat (Prostration while reciting particular Ayat of Qur’an)? If the person is precisely not aware of, as to how many days or years he has to perform the missed Prayers, Fastings and Sajda Thilawat etc., then what does he do?

Wa Alaikumus Salam wa Rahmathullahi wa Barakaathuhu!
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful. There is no particular way mentioned for performing the missed Ibadaath, neither the performance of same are fixed with a particular time, rather, excluding detestable (Makrooh) times and prohibited days, performance of missed Prayers (Qadha Salaath) and observance of missed Fastings can be done whenever one wishes. However, the easiest way of performing missed Salaath is to perform one or any convenient number of missed Salaath of the particular Salath of the Waqth ( appointed time) when the Fardh Salath of that particular Waqth is performed. In case of uncertainty as to the number of times missed, Qadha Salath be performed continuously in a cautious manner and when it is confirmed that the missed Salath would have become completed then performing of Qadha Salath be terminated, but it is essential that the order of the Qadha Salath are maintained. Therefore the method of keeping Niyyat (intention) is, for Ex: while performing the Qadha of Fajr, Niyyat should be kept thus: “I make intention to perform the first Fajr Salath which was due on me”. In this way, keep doing on every Salath. As for the Fasting and Sajda Thilawah, start to perform them according to a careful calculation with the intention of performing either the first or the last Fasting and Sajda Thilawath due. Once it is ascertained that the missed number is completed, terminate doing so.
Allah knows best.
