Eating in the Masjid

Question:

Is this Hadith authentic?

‘Abdullah ibnul Harith (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “In the time of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) we used to eat bread and meat in the Masjid.”

Answer:

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibnul Harith (radiyallahu ‘anhu) relates: “During the time of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) we would eat bread and meat in the Masjid.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3300)

Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic. ‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain authentic. (هذا إسناد صحيح رجاله ثقات ويعقوب مختلف فيه).

(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 1657 with some addition in the wording, Zawaid Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1077)

Kindly refer to a reliable Mufti/Darul ifta for rulings of fiqh in this regard.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
