A du’a for protection and to protect one’s belongings

Question

Is the following from Hadith? Is it authentic?

الله حفيظ لطيف قديم ازلي حي قيوم لا ينام

-If one reads this 11 times in the morning and evening, then one will live in peace and Allah Ta’ala will bless his wealth.
-If a copy of this is kept with ones possessions then it will be protected from theft.

Answer

I have not come across this du’a in any Hadith source.

This has been cited as the du’a of Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Ali, who was known as ‘Najm As Sufi’ (Demise: 181 A.H.)

‘Allamah Taqiyyud Din Muhammad ibn Ahmad Al Fasi and ‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahumallah) have cited the following among the beneficial things Najm As Sufi wrote:

“He has mentioned for the protection of life and wealth:

الله حفيظ، قديم، أزلى، حي، قيوم، لا ينام

Allahu Hafizun, Qadimun Azaliyyun Hayyun Qayyumun la yanamu

He has also mentioned that whoever says these words in the direction of his wealth that is not with him, it will be protected .”

(Al ‘Iqduth Thamin Fi Tarikhil Baladin Amin, vol. 2 pg. 84, ‘ilmiyyah edition, Ad Daw-ul Lami’, vol. 7 pg. 78 and At Tufatul Latifah Fi Tarikhil Madinah, vol. 6 pg. 31)

Note:

1) The above mentioned sources have cited the du’a without the word لطيف (latifun) and without specifying a number.

2) The du’a may be practiced upon without deeming it a Sunnah du’a.
