The love for Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) that some of those after him will have

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by

Is this Hadith authentic?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“From my ummah those who will love me the most, will be those who come after me. They would ardently desire to see me even at the cost of their family and wealth”

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). The Hadith is therefore authentic.

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2832)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.

However, the first part of the Hadith is inaccurately translated in your query. The more accurate translation is:

From those of my ummah who will love me the most, will be those who come after me…

This means, that in the eras after Nabi (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) there will be some individuals who also loved him the most. These individuals are not the only ones to have that amount of love for Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam). Therefore, this should not be misunderstood as the latter generations having more love for Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) than even the Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum)!
