A du’a for awakening for Tahajjud

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is there a virtue mentioned for the du’a that an angel will be sent to wake up the supplicator at the best moment of the night:

What is the reference for this Hadith and is it suitable to practice upon and propagate to others?

Answer

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:

‘One who recites the following du’a before sleeping, will get an Angel from Allah’s side who will awaken him at the most preferred time to Allah.

‘Allahuma la tu-minna makraka wa la tunsina dhikraka wala tahtik ‘anna sitraka, wala taj’alna minal ghafilin, Allahummab ‘athna fi ahabbil awqati ilayka hatta nadhkuraka fa tadhkuruna wanas-aluka fa tu’tina wa nad’uwaka fa tastajibu lana wa nastaghfiruka fataghfiru lana’

(Al-Firdaws of Imam Daylami (rahimahullah) with a weak chain, refer: Sharhul ihya, vol.5 pg.76 & Al-Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 173)

Du’as narrated with weak chains are suitable for practice.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
