Any virtue for eating melons?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Rasullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said: “None of your women who are pregnant and eat of water melon will fail to produce off spring that is good in countenance and good in character.”

Is this Hadith reliable?

Answer

I could not trace this Hadith in the famous Hadith sources.

One should avoid quoting such Hadiths until they can be verified, more so since several Hadith Scholars have said that there are no authentic Hadiths on the virtue of the melon, other than the fact that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) ate it.

(see Zadul-Ma’ad vol.4 pg.287; Al-Manarul-Munif; Al-Maqasidul-Hasanah pgs175-176, Al-la-alil-masnu’ah vol.2 pg.210 and Al-Masnu’ of Mulla Ali Qari pg.77)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
