What is the reference of this Hadith?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“When people are passing by it is enough if one of them greets (makes salam) on their behalf and it is enough for those who are sitting if one of them replies to the salam”

Answer

Imam Abu Dawud (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 5168)

This narration is corroborated and suitable to quote.
