Do not talk excessively without remembering Allah, for this causes the heart to harden

Is this Hadith authentic?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Do not talk excessively without remembering Allah, because such excessive talk without the mention of Allah causes the heart to harden, and the person furthest from Allah is a person with a hard heart”

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2411. Some editions of Tirmidhi have Imam Tirmidhi’s grading as ‘hasanun gharib‘ and others have ‘gharib‘ only)

The narration is acceptable and suitable to quote.

(Refer: Al Adhkar, Hadith: 997, Targhib, vol. 3 pg. 538, Tahdhibut Tahdhib, vol. 1 pg. 133 and Taqribut Tahdhib, 194)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
