The Masnun Surahs of Fajr Salah on Friday

What are the Masnun Surahs for the fard of Fajr Salah on Friday?

Answer

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would recite Surah Alif Lam Mim As Sajdah (Surah: 32) and Surah Dahr (Surah: 76) in the Fajr Salah on a Friday

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 879, 880)

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 891)

‘Allamah ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) states that since these Surahs discuss the various events that occurred and will occur on Friday, like the creation of Adam (‘alayhis salam) and the day of Qiyamah, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would recite these Surahs as a reminder for the Ummah.

(Zadul Ma’ad, vol. 1 pg. 364)

It is Sunnah and ideal to recite these Surahs completely in each rak’ah, instead of splitting one surah over two rak’ahs.

(Zadul Ma’ad, vol. 1 pg. 369)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
