Fasting doubts

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

I wear lip balm when i sleep otherwise i’ll have cracked and bleeding lips. When i fast, naturally my lips would move absentmindedly, and i tend to get fears that i accdentally touched my lips with my teeth. then i have to check with my tongue if i can taste the lip balm (not swallow) to check if it is actually there. i’ve been doing this quite frequently.

also, the same with feeling a hair in my mouth. i tend to not know if it is actually a hair or not.

i want to make things easier for myself. is it permissible for me to not have to go through all of the process of checking my tongue if these things are on it, and instead, if i am doubtful initially, i just ignore it?

these things make fasting unpleasant and when i try to ignore these things, i fear i’d invalidate my fast because of my ‘carelessness’.

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Yes, you should ignore these doubts. They will not affect the validity of your fast.
