Is it incumbent upon every member of a household to perform a sacrifice?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Question:

With reference to Qurbani is it incumbent upon every member of a household to perform a sacrifice or can one be done per family of a husband wife and children. If it is not so then at what age should the children start doing theirs. Thanks

Answer:

Salaams,

If a person has the means (by possessing the nisaab of Zakaat) on any of the three days of Qurbani, then it will be essential upon him to do a Qurbani. Hence, if all the members of the household has the means (in this manner), then, each of them will have to do a Qurbani. Children who are under the age of puberty are exempted from this. This means, that if a child has reached the age of puberty and has the nisaab of Zakaat at this time, then he/she must do a Qurbani.
