Reading six rakaats of Zuhr Salah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Reading six rakaats of Zuhr Salah

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

There are two possible rulings to this scenario:

  1. If you had sat down after the fourth rakaat for tashahud and then you stood up for the fifth rakaat and completed the Salah after the tashahud of the sisxth rakaat then the salah will be correct. There is no need for him to repeat the Salah or do Sajda Sahwe. Four rakaats will be fardh and the rmaining two rakaats will be optional. (Fatawa Darul Uloom Deoband p.277 v.4)
  1. If you did not sit down for the tashahud but instead stood up for the fifth rakaat. In this situation if you sit back down before you do sajdah of the fifth rakat, then you should do sajdah sahwe and finish the Salah. If you do sajdah of the fifth rakaat then you should join another rakaat to make it six rakaats. The six rakaats will know be considered as nafl and you will have to repeat your Zuhr Salah again. (Mukhtasarul Quduuri p.27)
