Question

In Muslim prayer (Namaz), if an error is made, how many sajda-e-sahw are to be performed – one or two?

Answer

Two Sajda-e-Sahw to be performed if an error is made. Author of ‘al Hidayah’ mentioned: “He is to prostrate for error, excess or deficiency making two prostrations after salutation, he is then to offer the Tashahhud followed by the salutation.” [See: Al-Hidayah, vol: 1, chapter: prostration of error during Prayer, page: 221, publisher: Center for Excellence in Research Islamabad. Kanz al-Daqaaiq, vol:1, page: 169, publisher: Idaratul Quran wal-Uloomul Islamiyyah Karachi]
