Question:

Referring to the fatwa on Etiquette of Sexual Intercourse that it is permissible for the spouses to see each other private parts with a sheet over bodies during intercourse. Is it suffice if the sexual intercourse is confined strictly in a closed room and complete curtain down without using sheet cover.

Answer:

Bismillah

It is permissible for a husband to look at the private parts of his wife during sex as it helps the husband in achieving full gratification. (Hidayah p.461 v.4 & Fatawa Hindiyyah p.328 v.5)

However, it is superior for each of the spouses to avoid looking at the others private parts due to the hadith of Saaidah Aaisha Radiallahu Anha who narrates that she did not see the private parts of the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him). (Sunan Ibn Majah p.138 v.1)

When having sexual intercourse one should at least place a cover or a sheet over their naked bodies. Utba Ibn Abd Sulami raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “When any one of you has sex with the spouse, let him cover himself. One should not be completely naked like the nakedness of two wild asses.” (Sunan Ibn Majah p.138 v.1)

However, it is allowed for the couple to be naked during sex if they are within their room. (Fatawa Hindiyyah p.328 v.5)
