What is mahr in a khula? Shariah on refusal?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
If after getting Khula, wife and his relatives refuse to return mahr to the husband, even promised (written by wife’s father) at the time of divorce to return the mahr, what Shariah says about that? And what precautions apply? Kindly tell the status mahr on wife toward her husband on khula (fardh, sunnah, wajib or mustahab) to return mahr?

Answer

(Fatwa: 274/214/B=1433)

Usually a woman takes khula in return of her mahr i.e. the woman demands for talaq in return of her mahr. If the husband has given talaq in this way then it is necessary to return the mahr to the husband. You can collect the amount of mahr by doing any Panchayat or with the mediation of some influential person.
