Lightning and Thunder

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: What is the meaning thunder and lightning in an Islamic context?

A: It is related from Sayyidina Ali (Radhiyallaahu Anhu) that Al Ra’d (thunder) is an angel. Al Barq (lightning) is the hitting on the clouds by this angel with a whip of iron. (Kanzul Ummaal V6 P170).
