Q: I would please like advise on the following matter: I’m 23 years old and I want to get married. There’s this boy that I am unsure about. There is a Moulana in Bloemfontein that reads istikharah and tells you in a few hours if the boy will be compatible for you. Is this wrong and fortune telling? Or should I listen to what he said? Are his answers from Allah, or do Jinns check the boy out? He said the boy is very strong headed and I’m weak headed. I like things in order and the boy doesn’t and his mother is attached to him and that will be a problem. I don’t know what to do. Are these important matters that will ruin my marriage if I marry this boy? I am so confused. Divorce is so common lately I’m so scared to make the wrong decision.
Also, there is a good boy who is Sunni and I am Tableeghi. Will a marriage in this case be problematic? Is what Sunnis do haraam?
A: You could ask this moulana to make istikhaara for you but better still you should make your own istikhaarah and whatever decision you take after the istikhaarah Allah will put barakah (blessing). It would not be wrong to not accept the istikhaarah of the moulana. Marrying a sunni boy can be problematic as there are a few differences that can cause unnecessary arguments which every marriage can do without.
