Istikharah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamu Alaikum, I did istikhara just under a week ago, after I did it I felt that I got a good sign. I did istikhara so I could get guidance on whether to start a business or not because I didn’t want to lose money. I did research in this sector and felt that it would be a good idea. I should also mention that I have anxiety disorder which makes me paranoid about things especially money. But now I’m thinking what if starting a business is the wrong decision. I’m thinking this because I feel that maybe I hastened because I felt a positive feeling about going through with my idea straight away. But I also believe that my doubts could be coming from waswas and my anxiety disorder. And the reason why I dont want to perform istikhara again is because I believe, what I’m writing about above, will happen again. Should I still go through with my idea?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

We make dua Allah Ta’ala guide you to whatever is best for you, Ameen.

You state you made istikharah and felt positive.  Now you have a doubt. You also state you have an anxiety disorder. It is possible your mixed feelings is the consequence of your anxiety disorder. We advice you to identify a person you have confidence in and consult with that person. If you feel confident, place your trust in Allah Ta’ala and proceed. If you are still doubtful, then experience precaution.

فقد قال الله تعالى: وشاورهم فى الامر, فاذا عزمت فتوكل على الله (ال عمران:159)

Translation: Allah Ta’ala said to his Nabi Consult them in matters. Then, when you have a decision place your trust in Allah Ta’ala. (A’li Imran: 159)
