Iddat and Leaving to Assist

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: My aunty just got divorced and is in Iddah. Her nephew’s wife is about to give birth so he has requested her to stay with him at his home to assist. She will only be indoors and there are no Na-mahram males. Is she allowed to do this while under iddah?

A. She is not allowed to leave the Iddah home during her Iddah. If a woman observing Iddah is in real danger of losing life or limb, or suffers from overwhelming fear when alone, then she may leave her home and stay in a safer place. (Fataawa Hindiyyah V1 P535, Aljauharatun Nayyirah V4 P310)

For reasons other than this she is not allowed to leave the Iddah home.

Allah Ta’aala knows best.
