Is this a valid ground in Shariah for divorce?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

My husband gave me triple thalaq and divorced me because I told his family he had a girlfriend before marriage. I only disclosed this as I wanted my mother in law to see her son was not the saint she thought he was because he pretends to act all innocent in front of her. My husband accused me of disclosing his secrets. Is that a valid ground of Shariah divorce? He divorced me because he holds a grudge against me for disclosing his past.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Both of you, your ex-husband as well as yourself have acted in an irresponsible way.

Your husband’s past was a trust by you. You should not have betrayed his trust.

It was also irresponsible of your husband to completely terminate the marriage due to your irresponsible behaviour.

Two wrongs do not make a right.

We share the pain of the divorce and make Dua to Allah to ease your pain.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
