Does memorizing the first 3 verses of surat al kahf and then reciting them in the time of dajjal when in fitnah protect you from fitnah? because i read a hadeeth saying whoever reads the opening 3 verses of surat al kahf it will protect him from dajjal. i have trouble memorizing beyond the fourth verse. and have trouble reading with the intention of protecting myself from the dajjal beyond part of the 5th verse. my family comes from a sect that believes communism and materialism and the wave of unbelief was dajjal, and other parts of the sect believe ataturk was the dajjal of muslims (the “sufyan” or “sufyani”) this has somewhat hindered at times my desire to learn. because i believe the dajjal is less fearsome.

All the Ulama of the Ahlus Sunnah-Wal Jam’ah are unanimous on the belief that amongst the major signs of the day of judgement is the appearance of the false messiah Dajjal (antichrist). Nabi Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam has warned us about Dajjal. It is stated in a hadith:
عن قتادةَ سَمِعتُ أنسَ بن مالكٍ يُحدث، عن النبي – صلَّى الله عليه وسلم – أنه قال: “ما بُعِثَ نبيٌّ إلا قد أنذر أمَّته الدَّجَّال الأعوَرَ الكذابَ ألا وإنَّه أعورُ، وإنَّ ربَّكم ليسَ بأعورَ، وإنَّ بين عينَيه مكتوباً كافرٌ”
Translation: Qatadah Rahimahullah narrated from Anas b. Malik that Nabi (ﷺ) reported as saying “No prophet was sent who had not warned his people about Dajjal the one-eyed. Between his eyes will be written “infidel” (kafir). Sunan Abu Dawud [4316]
In order to protect ourselves from Dajjal, Nabi Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam has advised us to read Surah Al-Kahf. There are many narrations as to which part of the Surah should be read or memorized. In one narration, the first ten verses are encouraged. In another narration, the first three verses are recorded, in another narration the last ten verses are recorded. Another narration mentions the whole surah.
Hereunder is the enquired hadith regarding memorizing the first three verses:
عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: “مَنْ قَرَأَ ثَلَاثَ آيَاتٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِ الكَهْفِ عُصِمَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الدَّجَّالِ”
Translation: Abu Ad-Darda Radhyallahu Anhu reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever recites three verses from the beginning of Al-Kahf he will be protected from the turmoil of the Dajjal.” Sunan At-Tirmizi [2886]
We encourage you to memorize the whole surah Kahf and recite it every Friday. If you cannot memorize the whole surah, then you may recite it every Friday, Inshallah Allah Ta’ala will protect you from Dajjal.

ونؤمن بأشراط الساعة: من خروج الدجال، ونزول عيسى بن مريم عليه السلام من السماء، ونؤمن بطلوع الشمس من مغربها، وخروج دابة الأرض من موضعها
صحيح مسلم (4/ 2252)
“فمن أدركه منكم، فليقرأ عليه فواتح سورة الكهف”
تعليق الشيخ عبد الفتاح ابو غدة رحمه الله على “التصريح بما تواتر في نزول المسيح” للشيخ محمد انور شاه الكشميري رحمه الله تحت هذا الحديث (ص 109):
وروى الإمام أحمد ومسلم وأبو داود والنسائي عن أبي الدرداء أن رسول الله ؟ قال : « من حفظ عشر آيات من أول سورة الكهف عصم من الدجال ، . وفي رواية : من آخر سورة الكهف … ،. فعلى رواية من أولها يكون ذلك ما في دلالة تلك الآيات على معرفة ذات الله وصفاته ، أو لما في قصة أهل الكهف من العجائب ، فمَنْ عَلِمَها لم يستغرب أمر الدجال فلا بفتن به . أو منه خصوصية أودعت في تلك السورة ما فيها من ذكر التوحيد وخلاص أصحاب الكهف من شر الكفرة الجبارين
وعلى رواية من آخر سورة الكهف ، فيكون ذلك لقوله تعالى في آخرها : ( أفحسبة الذين كفروا أن يتخذوا عبادي من دوني أولياء إنا أعتدنا جهنم للكافرين نزلا . وقال العلامة الطبي : المعني أن قراءة المؤمن لأحد هذين العشرين من أول السورة أو آخرها أمان له من فتنة الدجال ، كما أمنت تلك الفتية من فتنة دقیانوس الجبار .
