Takbirah al-Ihram before the Iqamah.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I notice some imams actually make takbirah al-ihram before the iqamah event finish. Is this mustahab in the madhab? I’m nominally trained in Shafii fiqh. But now that I’m praying with predominantly Hanafi jamaah, specifically Turkish community, I’d like to learn few subtleties with regards to the jamaah prayer. Unfortunately I don’t have any fiqh manual for the hanafi madzhab.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

This is the position of Imam Abu Hanifa, and is considered recommended. This is widely practiced by Turks. Some others act upon the position of Abu Hanifa’s main students, who said one initiates the prayer after the iqama is finished. The difference is not in validity but, rather, in terms of what is best.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani.
