Is Wearing a Hat Fulfils the Sunnah of the Wearing of the Topee?

Answered by: Maulana Muhammad Asadullah Anwar Adam

Question

So let’s say you just wear a regular hat and not a topi is that still counted as the sunnah and also the topis we see today which one was most similar to that of the prophet ﷺ

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Wearing a hat does not fulfil the sunnah of wearing a topee or turban as the Prophet (SAW) did.

The Prophet’s (SAW) topee was white. When he was on a journey, he would wear a topee that covered his ears and while he was at home he would wear a thin (i.e Syrian styled) topee. [1]

The topee should sit on the head and not be standing like a dome. [1]
