The procedure of making Sajdah Tilaawah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. After reciting Quran at the prostration parts, I used to do Sajda Tilawat by saying the Takbeer and then Sajda. However, I had never done the Takbeer post Sajda as I previously did not know the method included a Takbeer post prostration as well. My question is, do I have to repeat all my Sajda Tilawat?

A. The procedure of performing Sajdah Tilaawat is as follows:

  1. In the standing position (Qiyaam) say, ‘Allahu Akbar’ without raising the hands and go into prostration (Sajdah)
  2.  Recite ‘Subhaana Rabbiyal A’ala’ three times in prostration (Sajdah) and return to the standing position (Qiyaam) by saying, ‘Allahu Akbar’
  3. The same procedure may also be followed from the sitting position

In the enquired case, the recital of the two Takbeers between the Sajdah Tilaawat is Sunnah. Hence, if any of the Takbeers were left out unintentionally, the performance of the Sajdah Tilaawat will still remain valid and there is no need to repeat them. (Maraaqil Falaah 1/190)
