Question:

I am inquiring about Durood Tunjina. Do I need permission to read this Durood daily 300 times?  What will happen if I read it without permission because I read it was given to a wali of Allah from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) as a gift then shouldn’t I be allowed to read it as well?

Answer:

Durud Tunjina was given to Shaykh Musa Dharir by the Prophet (peace be upon him) in his dream whilst his ship was close to sinking.1 Since this Durud was received through a dream, therefore, a non-Prophet’s dreams cannot be hujjat (evidence).

It has also not been established through any Hadith or a statement of a Sahabi, one shouldn’t read it with full conviction. Although the wording of the Durud is not established, the Durud’s meaning is correct,  so if one reads it with the hope that Allah Ta’aala will ease for him his affairs, then he may do so.

Moreover, it is best that one reads those Duruds that have been established from Hadith because their rewards are established, like the Durud Ibrahim; not only has it been established through a Hadith, but also, its wordings have been related by the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself.
