Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

Kindly provide the reference of this Hadith along with its translation:

سَمِعتُ رسولَ اللهِ ﷺ يقولُ: أَوشَكَ الرجلُ أنْ يَتمنّى أنَّه خَرَّ مِن الثُّريّا، وأنَّه لَم يَتَوَلَّ -أو يَلِ، شَكَّ أبو بَكرٍ- مِن أَمْرِ الناسِ شيئًا

Answer

Imam Ahmad and others (rahimahumullah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 2 pg. 377 and vol. 2 pg. 520; Also see: Mustadrak Hakim along with Talkhisul Mustadrak, vol. 4 pg. 91, and At-Targhib Wat Tarhib, Hadith: 3220)

Translation

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) has narrated: “I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) saying: ‘[A time will soon come when] a person will be on the verge of desiring that he fell from the Sirius star, and that he never assumed responsibility for a single matter of the people.’”

[i.e. He would have preferred falling to the ground from the Sirius star, rather than having ever assumed responsibility for a single matter of the people.]

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 2 pg. 377; Also see: Hashiyatus Sindhi, vol. 2 pg. 687)

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
