Is there any Hadith proving wearing the turban without a tail?
Answer
I could not find any authentic hadiths which proves the wearing of the turban without out a tail. There are some narrations narrated in the shiah books and even a few in Sunni books but nothing which is authentic and clear cut .
However this does not mean one cannot wear a turban without a tail Although the practice of wearing a turban with a tail is more preferred by the scholars.
Mullah Ali Qari in Mirqaatul-Mafaateeh said the following :
قَالَ النَّوَوِيُّ فِي شَرْحِ الْمُهَذَّبِ: يَجُوزُ لُبْسُ الْعِمَامَةِ بِإِرْسَالِ طَرَفِهَا، وَبِغَيْرِ إِرْسَالِهِ، وَلَا كَرَاهَةَ فِي وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا، وَلَمْ يَصِحَّ فِي النَّهْيِ عَنْ تَرْكِ إِرْسَالِهَا شَيْءٌ،
Mulla Ali Qari States Imam Nawawi said in the commentary of Al-Muhazzab:
“ It is permissible to wear the turban with a tail or without one. There is no dislike ( كراهية ) in any of the two ways . There is no authentic hadiths about the prohibition of wearing a turban without a tail.”[1]
