Muslim women working with men and mingle

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Can muslim women work in a Private Job where men and women work together and mingle frankly? If she works in such en environment, Shall her salary be Halal or Haram?

Answer

At the outset, we wish to point out that Allah Ta’ala instructed woman to remain in the confines of her home,

         Allah Ta’ala says,

وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَى…

And remain in your homes and do not emerge like those of Jahiliyyah (Pre-islamic era)…

Qur’an 33:33

If a woman does not have anyone to maintain her, for example a widow etc. then she may go out of her home to earn an income. In that instance, she should adhere to the laws of hijab to the best of her ability.

It is not permissible for a woman to interact freely with males at work. That is a major sin.

The remuneration she receives for her services will be halal. However, her income will be fainted due to the haraam activities at work.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
