Sayyiduna Zubayr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) preventing his wife from going to the Masjid

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Some scholars (Tuhfatul Qari 3/219) have related this story that Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu) prevented his wife Sayyidah ‘Atikah (radiyallahu’anhua) from going to the Masjid.

Is this correct?

Because in the following passage, this story is related to Sayyiduna Zubayr (radiyallahu’anhu) stopping her from the Masjid.

Answer

The version you have cited above in Arabic is the correct one. Although Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu) disliked her attending the Masjid, it was Sayyiduna Zubayr (radiyallahu’anhu) who successfully stopped Sayyidatuna ‘Atikah bint Zaid (radiyallahu’anha) from going to the Masjid. She married him after the demise of Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu).

Refer: At-Tamhid, vol.4 pg.410, 418 & 424 and Al-Isabah, number: 11584.

In one narration, it appears that Sayyidah ‘Atikah (radiyallahu’anha) was in the Masjid on that morning [for Fajr] when Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu) was stabbed, and then subsequently passed away.
