Sayyiduna ‘Ali’s (radiyallahu ‘anhu) advice to his son

Could you please mention the source of this statement attributed to Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu):

“Do not be someone’s slave when Allah has created you free.”

Answer

Imam Mawardi (rahimahullah) has cited this narration as an advice of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) which he offered to his son Sayyiduna Hasan (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Adabud Dunya wad Din, pg. 537/538)

I have not come across a chain of narrators.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
