Would Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) kiss his daughter when returning from a journey?

Is there a narration that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would kiss his daughter Fatimah (radiyallahu ‘anha) whenever he would return from a journey?

Answer

Imam Abu Ya’la and Imam Tabarani (rahimahumallah) have recorded the following narration:

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports, “When Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would return from a journey, he would kiss his daughter Fatimah.”

(Musnad Abu Ya’la, Hadith: 2466 and Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 4117)

Hafiz Haythami states, “The narrators are reliable, however some of them do have slight weakness which is not serious”

(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 8 pg. 42)

The Hadith in question is also supported by the following narration recorded in Mustadrak Hakim:

Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) says, “….Whenever Fatimah (radiyallahu ‘anha) would come to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) he would stand up and welcome her, take her hand, kiss it and make her sit in his place”

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 3 pg. 154. Declared authentic by Hafiz Dhahabi)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
