Does Sexting Make My Phone Impure?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: I have a friend who asked me this: “Unfortunately from the last few years, he has been sexting. Now he wants to know that if he used obscene sexual words during his sexting, does this kind of typing makes his cell phone impure? I am not referring to physical impurity, only if typing these words makes his cell phone impure.

Answer:

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question. I am disappointed that your friend is involved in this haram behavior, and I pray that he comes out of it quickly and makes sincere repentance.

Addiction

Sexual addictions of any kind are difficult to beat, but it is doable. Many have done it. I pray that your friend can take a moment to realize that this habit is destructive and is polluting his soul. Perhaps he can make use of this website for Muslims and see the links below:

The Purity of the Cell Phone After Sexting

One’s cell phone does not become ritually impure after sexting, please see the details here:

Advise your friend as best as you can, and if one is unable to help the person, he should be distant from keeping his company. One generally should keep the company of those who are better than one in knowledge and practice to propel them on the right path. May Allah give you and your friends the best of this world and the next.
