What are the Prohibited Times of Salaah? Can Sajdah Tilaawat be performed after Fajr and Asr Salaah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. Mufti Saheb Can one perform sajda e tilawat after performing the fardh of Fajr or Asr salaah. Allah reward you abundantly for your time and effort dedicated to educate the ummah. Ameen

A. There 3 prohibited times of Salaah:

1. At the time of sunrise

2. At the time of Zawaal (when the sun is at it’s zenith)

3. At the time of sunset

The performance of all obligatory (Fardh), compulsory (Waajib) and optional (Nafl) Salaahs are prohibited during these times including the performance of Sajdah Tilaawat.

However, there are 2 times wherein the performance of all (Fardh), and compulsory (Waajib) Salaahs are permitted, including the performance of Sajdah Tilaawat with the exception of all optional (Nafl) Salaahs:

1. After Fajr until sunrise

2. After Asr until sunset

Therefore, it is permitted for one to perform Sajdah Tilaawat after the Fardh of Fajr Salaah until sunrise and after performing Asr Salaah until sunset. (Kitaabul Fataawa 2/450 – Kifayatul Mufti 3/651 – Fataawa Darul Uloom Deoband 4/300 – Jaamiul-Fataawa 4/190)
