Desire to study Islam in depth

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question

Salaam.

I am a young girl. My problem is that I have a huge desire and will to study more in depth into Islam but i am unable to do so. I wanted to become an alimah so much but my father did not allow me, now that i am 20 it is too late to do so. I really want to do something so that I may become a better Muslim and get nearer to Allah. I’ve always wanted to learn hadiths and the Islamic law etc but even after more than 5 years of making dua to Allah, crying my eyes out and trying my best to get myself this knowlege, I have aways not been allowed to do so. I now have left the matter to Allah as there is nothing more i can do to persuade my dad to let me go. I am only doing this for the sake of Allah so why then am i restricted to do this. Is there anything that i can do in order for Allah to open this path for me and make it easy for me and allow me to do these islamic courses and gain this knowledge that will come in use in this dunya and akhirah. Jzk for your help. Ws.

Answer

What your father did seems to be wrong, unless he had some wisdom behind it.  Seeking knowledge is fardh upon every Muslim male and female, so he should have permitted you; however, keep trying.  See if you can find some online courses – make sure their courses are right before joining; self-study is also possible; get in touch with local ulema/apa.  May Allah increase your zeal and assist you in fulfilling your dreams.
