Zikr and Quraan during istisbraa

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question:

Assalamu alaykum,

When you are doing istibraa (tie a tissue around your private parts) and you are waiting for the next namaz (e.g. you do istibraa after Zuhr but you wait until Asr to do wudhu again), I wanted to know in that time can you do zikr and pray the Quran (without touching it)?

Jazakallah (also Jazakallah for responding to previous questions Quickly, may Allah reward you abundantly… Ameen)

Answer:

Istibraa can usually be attained in a few steps, coughing etc. It doesn’t take a whole namaz period for it to be gained. Therefore, reciting the Quran without touching it and doing zikr after a number of steps are permissible. However, one should not delay in removing the tissue as he is carrying najaasat around with him, even though it may be a very minute amount.
