What is the ruling on marriage without living together?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question

Assalamu Alaikum,

What is the ruling on marriage without living together and what are your veiws on this. I am currently in education and establishing a home will probably not be possible until 25+. If not please advise me on fighting the nafs.

Jazakallah khair.

Answer

Nikah without living together is allowed, in fact in your case it is good if the girl is OK with it. I mean if she and her family are understanding, they allow you to do this. You meet occasionally and stay together – there is no harm in this.

I have a lot of sympathy for today’s youth. Sometimes I think that if I was in their shoes, I might not be able to control my nafs – May Allah protect our youth and use them for the work of deen.

The best way to control the nafs is punctuality upon the 5 Daily Salaah, some nawaafil and abundance of Zikrullah. Also Nafl Roza is another good way.
