If a child is born and dies within one week, do we need to perform aqeeqah for the deceased baby?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question: If a child is born and dies within one week, do we need to perform aqeeqah for the deceased baby?

Answer: It is not necessary to perform Aqeeqah, due to the death of the child.

However, another element here is gaining proximity to Allah. So if one does aqeeqa with the intention of gaining qurb of Allah Taa’la, it will be permissible.

This will be to show gratitude to Allah for the child itself, as the child will be a source of reward for the parents.

Allah knows best.
