I’ll masturbate now and do tawba later!

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Assalamu Alaykum,

I was bored. I thought I may as well as masturbate (naoodhoobillah). It’s a sin only & not kufr & therefore I can enjoy now & make tauba later. Hence I masturbated. Now I do feel such remorse &, in particular, fear of kufr. I have vowed never to do this sin again. Would this be kufr & invalidate nikah?

Firstly one should understand the seriousness of the sin of masturbating. One should not attempt to derive pleasure from one’s own organs.

The Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam is reported to have cursed the one who pleases himself with his hands.

Allah Ta’ala is Surah Mu’minoon whilst mentioning the qualities of a believer says, “And those who safeguard their private parts, except from their wives, and whom their right hand possesses.”

This shows that it is only permissible for a believer to fulfill his carnal desires through his wife.

Besides the command of Allah being broken, there are many medical and mental harms a person afflicts himself with by masturbating.

Therefore, one who is addicted to this evil habit should at once repent to Allah Ta’ala and make a vow never to go near it again.

Thereafter, to think that a sin is only a sin, and I shall do Taubah later is a very grave thought. It is nothing but a trick from shaytan. What guarantee do we have that we will live long enough to do Taubah.

Think to yourself, what if (Nauzubillah) malakul mawt comes while I am committing such a shameful act. How will I show my face to Allah.

That being said, for such a thought to come to one’s mind is a waswasah from Shaytan. Unless one utters such words, he will not have committed Kufr. There is no need to repeat one’s Nikah. However, one should never entertain such thoughts.
