Dressing etiquettes and Amal-E-Kaseer

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Do females have to wear an underwear while praying namaz? For example, is it ok to pray salaat in a nightie which reaches the feet without wearing an underwear or shalwar beneath? Please explain in detail what “Amal-e-Kaseer” means in salaat especially in relation to use of one or two hands. Will scratching or picking at nose by habit breaks namaz?

If somebody prays with her nightie then the prayer would be accepted even without the underwear given the condition that the complete body is covered. It is also allowed to pray with the underwear. Scratching does not nullify the prayer. The meaning of excessive action according to the description of scholars is that if there is a one-hand motion it is a little action, versus a two-handed motion which is an excessive action. If somebody has a habit of touching his nose with one hand this will not break the prayer.
