Islam’s First Instructions and Rafaa Yadain

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Is it true that the first hukum among all the ahkaam of Islam ordered to do as a fard on the Muslim ummah at the time of the Prophet (SAWS) is salaat (namaaz). Is it true that the Prophet (SAWS) used to do rafaa yadain (raising both hands in salaat) in Mecca because the kuffar used to hide idols in their armpits and under their arms and this way when kuffar did rafaa yadain all the idols used to fall down. (3) It says somewhere in Taaleem-ul-islam that it is makrooh for women to wrap their hair and tie them on their head during salaat, could you please explain what it means.

It is not clear that after entering into the fold of Islam the first main pillar of Islam is the prayer. There is no doubt that is the most important one and among those things which were obligated in the beginning but there were other injunctions that preceded the order to pray. For example, reciting the Koran as it was revealing was also obligatory which came before the obligation of the prayers. Also, inviting people was mandatory, keeping up the relationship; good manners with neighbors, and feeding the poor etc. were all the instructions that the prophet peace be upon him used to give to his companions as Islamic.

It is undesirable for women to tie their hair and make a bundle of it whether in the prayer or outside of the prayer.
