Istikharah – praying behind less then fist beard Iman – Istinjah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org
Can Taraveeh be prayed while reading the Quran in your hand? We are told this is allowed in one of the fiqh’s. What do Hanafi do when this is happening in your mosque? Also one of the fiqh say 8 taraveeh is recommended and others say 20 – who is right here?
Praying while holding the Quran in hands is not permissible. According to hanafi school of thought the prayer would not be acceptable. As a matter of fact, if someone is praying and someone else from behind corrects him while holding the Quran in his hands the prayer would be invalidated. According to the other schools of thought the prayer of a person is fine as long is the person is not carrying the book in his hands. If a person reads, while looking at the book, in his prayer this prayer is fine, according to the other schools of thought. However, even in those schools of thought if a person holds the book than the prayer would not be acceptable. Taraweeh should be performed in 20 rakas and there is no report of only 8 rakas.
