Hadith regarding dua at the time of Iftaar

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Could I please get a message showing that this message is not authentic, I am still receiving it from many other people who are much older than me and I would like to give them a gentle message for not spreading this message.

Once Moosa (AS) asked Allah Ta’ala: O Allah! You have granted me the honor and privilege of talking to you directly, Have you given this privilege to any other person? Allah Ta’ala replied, O!! Moosa during the last period I am going to send an ummat, who will be the Ummat of Mohammed (SAW) with dry lips, parched tongues, emaciated body with eyes sunken deep into their sockets, with livers dry and stomachs suffering the pangs of hunger- will call out to me (in dua) they will be much closer to me than you O Moosa! while you speak to me there are 70000 veils between you and me but at the time of iftaar there will not be a single veil between me and the fasting Ummati of Mohammed (SAW) O!! Moosa I have taken upon myself the responsibility that at the time of iftaar I will never refuse the dua of a fasting person!

Sub’hanallah!!

Humble Request: Please spread this Hadith as much as possible to your dear ones.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Dear Brother,

Hereunder is the Arabic text of the enquired narration from Tafseeru Ruhul Bayan[1]:

Translation: It is reported that once Musa (Alihis Salam) asked Allah Ta’ala: O Allah! You have granted me the honor and privilege of talking to you directly, have you given this privilege to any other person? Allah Ta’ala replied, O’ Musa during the last period I am going to send a nation who I will honor them with (fasting in) the month of Ramadhan and I will be closer to them. Indeed, (O Musa) while you speak to me there are seventy thousand veils between you and me but when the Ummat (nation) of Muhammad Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam fasts and their lips become dry and their body  weakens (due to the pangs of hunger) at the time of iftaar, there will not be a single veil between me and the fasting Ummati of Muhammad Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam”. Ruhul Bayan [8/150]

The narration in reference does not have a chain of narration, hence its authenticity cannot be proven.

In order to express the virtue of fasting and duas being accepted during iftar, rather the following authentic hadith may be cited:

Translation: Abu Hurairah Radhyallahu Anhu narrated that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam said: “There are three whose supplications are not turned back: A just ruler, and a fasting person until he breaks his fast. And, the supplication of one who has been wronged is raised by Allah up to the clouds on the Day of Resurrection, and the gates of heaven are opened for it, and Allah says, ‘By My Might I will help you (against the wrongdoer) even if it is after a while”. Sunan Ibn Majah [1752]

Translation: ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin ‘As Radhyallahu Anhu narrated that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam said: “When the fasting person breaks his fast, his supplication is not turned back.” Sunan Ibn Majah [1753]
